HAZCHEM – Dangerous Goods Driver Training

This course is designed for drivers who need to transport dangerous goods on South African roads, ensuring compliance with Chapter 8 of the Road Traffic Act 1996 and relevant safety and legal requirements. The training prepares drivers to handle dangerous goods safely during loading, conveyance, and off-loading, while also equipping them with the necessary skills to manage incidents effectively.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

1.                Comply with Legal Documentation Requirements: Ensure that all required documentation for transporting dangerous goods is accurate and up-to-date.

2.                Apply Safety and Standard Operating Procedures: Follow established safety procedures during the loading and off-loading of dangerous goods to minimize risk and ensure safe handling.

3.                Handle Incidents Safely: Apply appropriate safety procedures in the event of an incident or accident involving dangerous goods.

4.                Comply with SANS 10231 Requirements: Understand and adhere to the South African National Standards (SANS) 10231, which govern the safe and legal transportation of dangerous goods by road, including required behavior on the route.

Prerequisites

•                 Learners must have attained NQF Level 2 in Mathematical Literacy and Communication.

•                 Drivers must hold a valid driver’s license and a professional driving permit (PrDP).

•                 Learners should be at least 25 years old.

•                 Re-certification is required within 1 month of certificate expiry; if expired for more than a year, the full course must be completed again.
